Concept
A plaza is an integral piece of the urban fabric of Latino culture and social life. It is a place where people gather to eat, dance, socialize, sell goods, and more. This project aims to highlight the union of people and to celebrate Latino culture and heritage.
This will be achieved by creating not one large plaza, but multiple microplazas throughout the site and even within the building itself. This dispersion of these microplazas allows for different points of focus where one can celebrate and foster environments to learn more about the culture.

Program
The project is the interior renovation of the Rufas Cage building. The building hosted an elementary school until the mid-70s, and since then, it has been abandoned and in a dilapidated state. The new program hosts a Latino cultural center in Houston, TX. The challenge was fitting a large program into the dimensions of the existing building, 50 ft (15.24 m) x 50 ft (15.24 m).
